For Dave, it’s often the small things that make the biggest difference.

DAVE THOMAS

Senior Prosthetist

Drawing on more than 19 years of experience in the prosthetics industry, including more than a decade working across Newcastle and the Central Coast, Dave provides patient-centred prosthetic solutions for people with all levels and types of limb difference.

Professional Interests

With extensive experience in lower limb prosthetics, Dave also has particular interests in paediatric, upper limb and osseointegration presentations. Whatever the situation, his real focus is on finding the “one percenters”; those extra little details that can make a meaningful difference to someone’s comfort, function and day-to-day life.

Dave believes outstanding prosthetic outcomes begin with a strong relationship between the prosthetist and the person wearing the prosthesis. His approach is built around close collaboration, clear communication and genuinely understanding each person’s goals, lifestyle and needs.

After building many long-standing relationships throughout his career, Dave understands that people’s lives and goals don’t stand still. He enjoys adapting to those changes, exploring new solutions and always looking for that little bit extra that can make a difference.

outside of work

Outside of work, Dave enjoys a busy family life with his wife and two kids. He’s also a self-confessed Foo Fighters fanatic and cricket tragic, and can still be found taking the field each summer; despite the days getting hotter and the recovery taking a little longer!

For Dave, it’s often the small things that make the biggest difference.

Michael strongly believes a prosthesis should do more than replace a missing limb. It should be designed around the individual, built for their life and ultimately become part of them.

MICK STOREY

Senior Prosthetist

Having grown up in the Hunter Valley and Newcastle region, Michael now has almost two decades of experience in the prosthetics industry.

Throughout his career, Michael has worked with people across all levels of amputation and a wide range of activity levels, with a focus on helping them achieve their goals. During that time, he has developed a particular passion for challenging cases; those where conventional solutions aren’t enough and where achieving the best possible outcome requires clinical expertise, creative problem-solving, genuine collaboration and teamwork.

Professional Interests

Michael has a particular interest in transfemoral prosthetic socket design. He believes the socket is the foundation of the prosthesis and that there isn’t always a single “right” way to design one. Understanding the individual, challenging conventional thinking and being willing to explore different approaches can make the difference between a prosthesis that simply works and one that truly works for the person wearing it.

Alongside his clinical work, Michael has led one of Australia’s largest prosthetic clinics and served as a Director of the Australian Orthotic and Prosthetic Association. This experience has given him a deep understanding of the prosthetics industry and what it takes to deliver the right solution for each individual.

outside of work

Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, son and friends and considers himself something of a sports tragic. Whether it’s watching his son play soccer, kicking a ball around in the backyard, competing on the squash court or golf course, or simply watching sport whenever he gets the chance, there’s rarely a game too far outside his radar.

Michael strongly believes a prosthesis should do more than replace a missing limb. It should be designed around the individual, built for their life and ultimately become part of them.

For Paris, the goal is simple: your prosthesis should help you get on with life and not get in the way of it.

PARIS PICKERING

Senior Prosthetist

Paris has worked in the private prosthetics sector for more than a decade, bringing extensive experience across a broad range of clinical presentations and patient groups. Originally from Adelaide, Paris spent five years working in Brisbane before making Newcastle home almost a decade ago.

Throughout her career, Paris has worked with amputees of all ages and across all levels of amputation. She places a strong emphasis on getting to know each person beyond their clinical presentation, believing that building a genuine relationship between prosthetist and patient is an important part of achieving the best possible outcome.

Professional Interests

Paris has a particular interest in paediatric prosthetics, complex transtibial cases and upper limb prosthetics. She enjoys thinking outside the box, finding practical solutions to challenging problems and making sure each person feels supported throughout their prosthetic journey.

outside of work

Outside of work, Paris is kept busy with her two (soon to be three) young children and three French Bulldogs. Her own busy family life has reinforced her understanding of how important a well-fitting, well-functioning prosthesis can be to everyday life.

For Paris, the goal is simple: your prosthesis should help you get on with life and not get in the way of it.
